Role Overview & Responsibilities

Hello and thank you for your interest in volunteering with elop: LGBT Mental Health & Wellbeing. We are a charity that has supported lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) communities since 1995.

We are recruiting mental health volunteers to support our HeadsOut Service. Specifically, you will be trained in how to work individually with our clients to create a personalised mental health plan to enable and empower them to self-care and prevent crisis.

The role will use existing resources and psychoeducation tools, but the key to their success is being able to apply the client's experience specifically and make any adaptations or hold focus to ensure the client recognises the value for themselves in applying the principles and actions.

Due to the nature of the role, experience of supporting people experiencing mental distress is essential and training or qualifications in mental health, counselling psychology or other social science field is desirable. We welcome those with lived experience of their own mental distress, but would encourage you to consider whether you are in a place of stability as this role could potentially be triggering for some.

To receive an application pack, please email elop at our mental health email address: mental health at elop dot org, with 'mental health volunteer' in the subject line.

Additional skills for this role include excellent verbal and written skills, knowledge of mental health and LGBT+ experiences.

Full induction to the role and on-going support will be provided.

We look forward to hearing from you.
