Role Overview & Responsibilities

This is an opportunity to work for an agricultural robotics startup that is passionate about the environment. The role begins in mid November.

Our mission is to eliminate agrochemicals from arable farming, while increasing biodiversity, regenerating the soil and becoming a carbon sink.

Our novel farming system has the potential to revolutionise arable farming and significantly reduce its environmental impact, while creating more localised food systems.

The company office and workshop is situated on a working arable farm in the heart of the national forest.

We are looking for a software engineer who shares this environmental passion.

With proven skills and expertise in software design, you will be working to design and develop software to control robotic solutions and visualize data from the various onboard sensors. Initially, you will work alongside and report directly to the project lead, who has a background in electronic engineering and arable farming.

Your role will be to create innovative and efficient solutions for the wide range of problems identified. Your role will encompass:

  • Research and learning about existing agricultural tools and methods
  • Brainstorming and discussions around new ideas and solutions
  • Developing web based and embedded software
  • Presenting design plans to managers and clients
  • Producing technical documents that the company requires
  • Designing, testing and verification of prototypes
  • Developing the prototypes into market ready products
  • Work flexibility - engaging with any task required to move the project forward

Essential skills and experience

  • Web design - JS, HTML, CSS
  • Embedded design - C++, Python
  • Embedded Linux
  • Ability to work autonomously

Desirable skills and experience

  • Knowledge of arable agricultural equipment and practices
  • ROS, ROS2
  • Simulation - Webots, Gazebo
  • Machine Vision - OpenCV
  • Robotics design
  • Data analysis
  • Machine learning
  • Scrum process
